Our motivation in making this film was to diminish the distance between the laborers and the rest of us, to put the microphone in their hands to tell their own story loud enough for everyone to hear. We hope this inspires a desire in our audience for deeper connections, greater integration, and personal involvement with the labor community.
There are several organizations in the UAE doing phenomenal work in the labor camps, through a variety of stimulating and enabling initiatives. We urge you to please visit their websites to find out how to make in-kind donations or get involved in upcoming activities:
Adopt-a-Camp has been working with laborers in the UAE for 8 years and currently has 50 camps and 43,700+ men under its wing. They run a varied set of programs to meaningfully improve the lives of these men, including English classes and scholarships, art and sports events, hygiene workshops, medical/optical/dental assistance, counselling sessions and care of abandoned camps.
The [sameness] project is a Dubai-based social initiative using online and offline projects to facilitate moments of [sameness], looking past all the things that separate people to see what makes us the same.
Sameness projects such as Water for Workers, We've Got Your Back, and The Conversation Chair, engage individuals from all walks of life, erasing the lines between "them" and "us" and "I" and "we".
Labor of Love UAE supports groups of male and female laborers in Abu Dhabi through programs such as English lessons, Camp Creative, IT lessons, wellness classes and lectures, social events and more. They work with individuals and companies to organize volunteer involvement and gather in-kind donations.
